- Choose one:
- The E-Discovery Vortex: Client Confidences and Zealous Advocacy in an Era of Increasing Transparency and Dialogue: Corralling e-discovery requires increasing transparency and dialogue with the opposition. Moreover, courts are increasingly expecting counsel to follow The Sedona Conference® Cooperation Proclamation. This program will provide guidelines for maintaining client confidences and zealous client advocacy at the e-discovery critical junctures. Presented by UF Law adjunct faculty member and Holland & Knight partner William F. Hamilton.
- Find it Free and Fast: An Update on Federal and Florida Research on the Internet This CLE presentation will review current online sources for conducting legal research at no cost. The presentation will include both Florida and federal information. It also includes some current technological tools to help with a law office's day-to-day research and operational needs. Presented by UF Law Head of Technical Services Edward T. Hart and Reference Librarian Patricia Morgan.
- Session 2
- 2 p.m. – 2:55 p.m.
- Choose one:
- Ethical Lessons Learned from the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case: Professor Seigel will examine the behavior of Mike Nifong, the prosecutor in charge of this notorious case, and delineate the numerous ethical rules he violated before resigning and, ultimately, suffering disbarment. The lessons learned will transcend those related to prosecution and be of interest to anyone involved in litigation, civil or criminal. Presented by UF Law Professor Mike Seigel.
- Squeeze-Outs, Freeze-Outs and Other Major Issues Arising Under Florida Corporate Law: This session will center on minority shareholder rights, conflict of interest concerns, derivative actions and other major issues arising under Florida corporate law. A portion of the materials will deal with professional responsibility concerns of corporate counsel. Presented by UF Law Professor Stuart R. Cohn, John H. & Mary Lou Dasburg Professor of Law and Associate Dean for International Studies.
- Session 3
- 3 p.m. – 3:55 p.m.
- Choose one:
- Financial Engineering and Financial Crisis: This program is a discussion, specially designed for lawyers, of financing structures that have, over the last two decades, become an increasingly important part of real estate finance (and some financing of business ventures) and have, more recently, been at the heart of the crisis engulfing the U.S. banking system. The program will cover MBSs, CMBSs, CLOs, CDOs, and CDSs. If you know the meanings of all of these acronyms, this program may not be interesting to you (you know too much). If some or all of them are unknown to you, the program may be of interest. Presented by UF Law Professor and Hugh F. Culverhouse Eminent Scholar in Taxation Larry Lokken.
- Great Legal Writing and Oral Argument: Tactics That Work: Whether we are fresh out of law school or experienced, we owe our clients our very best effort. To that end, this course is designed to help all lawyers hone their advocacy skills by providing time-tested and practical tips for using cases and language more effectively. No matter what your experience, you'll learn how to produce better documents and more persuasive oral arguments. Presented by UF Law Senior Legal Skills Professor Teresa J. Reid Rambo.
