Annual Conference on Legal & Policy Issues in the Americas
The Center for Governmental Responsibility directs the Annual Conference on Legal & Policy Issues in the Americas, in cooperation with the Law and Policy in the Americas Program. The overall focus of the conference is related to the rule of law and justice reform throughout the Americas. Agendas have included presentations on international trade, legal education, financial crimes, justice reform, human rights, alternative dispute resolution, economic integration, legal education and professionalism, privacy, press freedom, environment, and property rights.
The Conference alternates between Gainesville, Florida, and locations throughout the Americas. To date, the conference has been held in San Jose, Costa Rica; Lima, Peru; Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba, Brazil; and Montevideo, Uruguay.
Participants in the conference include lawyers, policy makers, law professors, judges, law students, journalists, and business professionals. They represent countries from throughout the Americas.
The conference is designed to provide a venue for scholars, business and government leaders in the Americas to analyze legal and policy issues of importance to the countries of this hemisphere, with the goal of fostering programs and faculty interests of the University of Florida.

The 2012 Conference, like its predecessors, will examine current legal issues in the hemisphere, while continuing to strengthen our partnerships throughout the region. The conference assembles leading legal experts from throughout the hemisphere to discuss and debate topics of judicial reform, mediation, comparative law, democracy and privacy, tax reform, trade and business, human rights, and environment and agriculture.

- General registration for Participants from US and other countries (excluding Argentina) – US$100 (does not include CLE)
- Argentine Lawyers, Professionals & Government Officials – US$100
- Argentine University Faculty (excludes UBA faculty) — US$50
- Argentine University Students (excludes UBA faculty) – US$25
- UBA faculty — $0
- UBA student — $0
The registration fee entitles the registrant to attend all conference sessions and to receive any conference materials.
Registration deadline: May 4, 2012
Cancellation policy: Registration fees less a 16% service charge will be refunded upon receipt of a written cancellation request. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received on or after the conference starting date. If the conference is cancelled, the University’s liability is limited to a refund of the registration fee.
On-Site Payments: Please make every effort to pay for your registration before arriving at the conference. The only payment methods accepted on site are US check and US cash. The University of Florida has adopted the PCI Data Security Standards to protect your credit card information and will not accept credit card payments at the conference. If you register on site without payment, a PCI Data Security Standards compliant payment link will be e-mailed to you.
Conference location: The conference sessions will be held at the law school of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. www.derecho.uba.ar
Conference hotel: The conference hotel is the Hotel Etoile Recoleta, Pte. Roberto M. Ortiz 1835, Recoleta, (C1113ABA), Buenos Aires, Argentina. Telephone: 5411-4805-2626. (www.etoile.com.ar). It is located in the Recoleta quarter of Buenos Aires, near restaurants, shopping, and museums. The conference rate is approximately US$140/night, including breakfast.
CLE Credit: The Conference has been approved for 18.50 General CLER Credits from The Florida Bar. When you register for the conference, please choose the registration option that includes CLE credit for a fee of US$250. At the conference registration, you will receive information regarding the course number and amount of CLER credits.
