LL.M. Admissions and Online Application
Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 Admission Deadlines
Completed applications, including all supporting documents, must be received by June 15, 2015, for the Fall 2015 semester, and October 15, 2015, for the Spring 2016 semester. Applications will be reviewed upon submission and admission decisions will be made on a rolling basis.
Current law students are advised to wait until they have completed five semesters of law school before applying to the LL.M. program.

Applicants for the LL.M program must have a J.D. from a law school that is a member of the Association of American Law Schools or from a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association. Applicants will be evaluated based on consideration of the following factors: academic performance; demonstrated interest in environmental, natural resources or land use law; scholarly capacity; law practice experience and legal skills; and other environmental, natural resources or land use experience. An applicant’s strength with one or more of these factors may lessen the importance of the other factors for that applicant.
International Students: At this time, the LL.M. program is not open to international applicants. However, please see our LL.M. in Comparative Law Program, through which you may be able to take environmental law courses as electives.
How to Apply
Enrollment is limited to applicants who have attained a Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from a law school that is a member of the Association of American Law Schools or from a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association. However, graduates of law schools provisionally accredited by the American Bar Association may be considered for admission on the basis of outstanding credentials.
The application involves a two-step process: 1) Applicants must complete the University of Florida’s electronic application form, and 2) the supporting material packet must be sent directly to the LL.M. in Environmental and Land Use Law office at the address noted below.
University Application: to be submitted online.
1. Completing the online application will take some time. You should have the following documents on hand to assist you with the application:
- Copies of your transcripts from all college or universities you attended
- Date(s) you took the LSAT
- If Florida residency is being claimed for tuition purposes, you will need the voter registration, driver license and vehicle registration of the person claiming residency. Non-U.S. citizens will need their resident alien numbers.
2. Visit the UF Graduate School Catalog’s “How to Apply” webpage. This starting point will provide valuable information on the application and admission process and bring you to the online application form. Read all the information and instructions on the UF Office of Graduate Admission web pages by visiting UF Office of Admission: Graduate Admissions at http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/applygraduate.html..
On the UF Graduate School Catalog’s webpage at “HOW TO APPLY,” scroll down to “Application Steps.” From that point click on “Applying Online -> Graduate -> Continue.” Begin to fill out the Online Application. When asked to “Select Degree,” select the category “Masters Degree.” When asked to “Select a Program of Study,” scroll down to “Law” and choose “Environmental and Land Use Law.”
3. There is a nonrefundable $30 fee. You can pay this fee online by credit card or via mail with a bank check made payable to the “University of Florida.” Your application cannot be processed without a fee payment.

4. Official copies of each transcript from all undergraduate, law school, and other graduate institutions that you attended.
5. A copy of your LSAT/LSDAS report (your law school may be able to provide a copy).
6. A copy of your current resumé.
7. Personal statement: In 500 words or less, provide any additional information you believe to be relevant to your application. We are particularly interested in the following: a) why you are seeking an LL.M. degree, b) why you are interested in obtaining an LL.M. degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and c) your career goals over the next 5-10 years.
8. Two letters of recommendation are required. The committee will review no more than three letters of recommendation per applicant. We strongly prefer that at least one of the letters be from a law school professor. If letters will be sent directly from the writers to the law school, please include the names and contact information of your recommenders in your supporting documents packet. Any such letters sent directly to the law school must be sent to the address above (paragraph 4) or to email@example.com. The letters should address the applicant’s abilities and whatever strengths the writer believes the applicant to possess that will aid the applicant in successful completion of the program.
9. Writing Sample: A sample of your writing on a law or policy-related matter. This may take the form of a pleading, brief, memo, or other document. You may submit more than one document, but the total must not exceed 25 pages.

11. To apply for the Conservation Associate Scholarship, applicants should supplement their applications to the LL.M. program with a personal statement of 500 words or less as to why the applicant should be awarded a Conservation Associate Scholarship.
Health Insurance Requirement
Effective June 30, 2014, as a condition of enrollment, all newly admitted law students must participate in a mandatory student health insurance program. More information is available at http://www.law.ufl.edu/admissions/admitted-students/health-insurance-requirement.
UF policy requires all new students to have access to, and on-going use of, a computer. Read the Mandatory Laptop Computer Policy for the computer policy and hardware/software recommendations
The University of Florida Housing Department has various apartment complexes on-campus for graduate students and students with families. These apartments vary from one to two bedrooms as well as flat and town-house units. Contact the Housing Department through its Website or call 352-392-2161 to request information on housing and an application form.
