Judicial Clerkship Program

UF Law adheres to the Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan that allows only third-year students and alumni to apply for federal judicial clerkships. For federal judicial law clerk openings beginning in Fall 2009, third-year students and law graduates are permitted to submit their law clerk applications and letters of recommendation beginning on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, for the fall hiring cycle. The law school faculty have been discouraged from sending letters of recommendations for students prior to this date. You are strongly encouraged to request letters of recommendation from faculty members well in advance of the due date.

Further, all application materials, including sealed letters of recommendation and transcripts should be sent in one complete mailing, unless the judge is participating in OSCAR. Information on OSCAR (On-line System for Clerkship Application & Review) and the federal judges participating in OSCAR can be found at http://oscar.dcd.uscourts.gov. For students considering openings for mid-term vacancies or new appointees, please follow the application procedures stated in the advertisement.

For additional information or assistance, please contact Assistant Director, Jocelyn Ferguson or Assistant Dean, Linda Calvert Hanson. The Judicial Clerkship Handout offers important information on the application process, the interview and more.
