The University of Florida Levin College of Law’s annual international meeting of Latin American experts, “Legal and Policy Issues in the Americas,” is scheduled for May 15-16, 2005, in Gainesville, Florida, at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center. The Conference also includes an optional discussion about terrorism in the Americas on Tuesday, May 17, at the Levin College of Law.

The overall focus of the conference is to develop a template that we will use in analyzing justice systems in selected countries throughout the Americas, beginning with Peru. We will open with an examination of the current justice reforms in Peru, and examine the justice systems of Peru, Chile, and the United States. We will be identifying ways that justice systems complement or impede the challenges of Business Investment and Trade Negotiations, Terrorism, Dispute Resolution, and Property Rights. Participation in the conference is limited to 100 attendees, including lawyers, policy makers, law professors, judges, law students, business owners, and law enforcement representatives.

The conference agenda includes five plenary sessions covering five topics and two breakout sessions to discuss the formal presentations. The sessions include speakers from the United States, Peru, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Mexico.
