The Center for Governmental Responsibility’s Eighth Annual Conference on Legal & Policy Issues in the Americas will be held April 11-12, 2007, in Gainesville, Florida.
The 2007 conference will feature day-long workshops and discussions on selected topics, including:
- Brazilian Perspectives on Legal & Policy Issues in the Americas
- Street Crime, Organized Crime & Terrorism, Combating Their Threat to Economic and Political Stability in the Americas
- Parliamentary Reform: Increasing Effectiveness, Transparency and Oversight
- New Directions in Property Law and Policy in Latin America and the Caribbean
- Human Rights
- Lessons and Challenges of MERCOSUR’s Trade, Business, and Dispute Settlement Systems
- Justice Reform
- Legal Education, Professional Responsibility & Ethics
- Environment & Agriculture
The conference and workshops are designed to define and develop a research agenda for the 2008 conference, scheduled to be held in Brazil. The conference will examine current legal issues in the hemisphere, while continuing to strengthen our partnerships throughout the region.
Collaborators for the conference are the Center for Governmental Responsibility at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, the law faculty at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RIO), the Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida, the Law and Policy in the Americas Program at the University of Florida and the Florida Journal of International Law.
