Franklin Paniagua
Franklin Paniagua was born in San Jose, Costa Rica and graduated from the Faculty
of Law at the University of Costa Rica. In 1990 he begun working at CEDARENA,
the Environmental Law and Natural Resources Law Center, where he developed
his professional career focus on coastal planning and legislation and
later in environmental conflict management. While with CEDARENA Paniagua
helped to found and coordinate the Mesoamerican Conflict Management Network,
a regional consortium of institutions focused on the use of collaborative
approaches to natural resource management. The network served as a region-wide
learning community to develop mediation tools. Franklin has continued
to be involved in training, assessing and facilitating environmental conflicts
throughout Latin American in places that he learned to love like the Araucania,
Baja California; Galapagos, Ecuador; Peten, Guatemala and the Brazilian
Amazon. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Florida
in Gainesville.
