Abandoned Railway Adaptive Reuse Project

Miguel Collazo (U. of Fla.) and Hilary Hebert (U Denver) worked in an interdisciplinary team with Costa Rican postgraduate law students Andrea Azuola and Jose Alejandro and architectural students from the Universidad de Diseño on a project to establish an urban multi-modal "rail-trail"along an abandoned section of railroad near the Universidad de Costa Rica in San Pedro. Visiting UF law professor, a national expert in U.S. rail trail law lent her expertise to the project.

Program students collaborated with students from the Universidad de Diseño to make a multimedia presentation to represents of the municipalidad de San Pedro de Montes de Oca and other interested parties.

Miguel Collazo presents the results of his legal history research on the feasibility of converting a portion of the abandoned railroad near to the University of Costa Rica to a "rail-trail" at a community meeting at the railroad museum in downtown San Jose.
