Private Conservation
Private land conservation has become a critical tool in regional conservation strategies. Along with state and national conservation organizations, the local land trust movement has been a catalyst for private conservation initiatives. The Conservation Clinic can support such initiatives. In addition to provide research and design support for the legal tools to facilitate protection of private lands, depending on the interdisciplinary student expertise available, the Clinic may be able to draw from the planning and design professions on campus.
In a Spring 1999 project, the Clinic provided legal and planning assistance to two landowners interested in the conservation of their lands. In one case the landowner has established a private foundation to preserve and maintain his property, and the Clinic also assisted this landowner with issues related to nature of private foundations. The reports linked to this page were drawn from the Spring 1999 urban conservation project.
