Law School Woods Project

The Law School Woods: Sustainability Begins at Home

In the Spring of 2007, Conservation Clinic student Ashley Henry (3L) submitted a proposal on behalf of the Environmental and Land Use Law Society, a student organization, to the University of Florida Student Government to take on the restoration of one of UF’s most neglected conservation areas - immediately adjacent to the Levin College of Law. Henry researched campus conservation policies and recruited an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students from 4 UF colleges to participate in the project.

Her proposal was accepted and ELULS was awarded $ 16,300 to begin the process of restoring the law school woods - infested with invasive exotic species - to its native habitat. As part of the proposal both ELULS and the adjacent Golfview Homeowner’s Association pledged their sweat equity in perpetuity to ensure that the project meets its restoration goals.
