Courses
NOTE: The following two courses constitute a nine-credit, two-semester program and each is limited to 16 students. It is expected that all 16 taking Law 6930 (Preparation for Pro Se Clinic) will proceed to Law 6940.
- • LAW 6930 – Interviewing, Counseling, and
Negotiation (3 credits)
An examination of theories and skills involved in interviewing and counseling clients, and basic negotiation skills. Readings, videotapes, role plays and simulations will be used. This class is a pre-requisite for four of the civil clinics (Full Representation, Juvenile, Pro Se, and Intimate Partner Violence Assistance). Prerequisites: None. - LAW 6940 - Pro Se Clinic
(6 pass/fail credits)
An unbundling clinic in which students provide discrete legal services, primarily in the form of legal advice, to people with family law issues.
Prerequisites: Clinic Prep / Pro Se(LAW 6930). - Domestic Violence (2 credits)
This is a substantive law course in domestic violence. It consists of discussion on assigned readings and guests lecturing on various areas of domestic violence (law enforcement, prosecutors, defenders, civil attorneys, counselors, victim advocates, etc.). Prerequisites: None. - Domestic Violence Externships
Supervise domestic violence externships in which students do domestic violence work at the State's Attorney's Office or Three Rivers Legal Services.
