Associate Dean for Students Gail Sasnett was elected president of the National Association of Women Lawyers and featured in the Gainesville Sun and Independent Florida Alligator, among others. Sasnett is the fifth Floridian to head the 100-year-old association, and the first from UF. NAWL works for social, political and professional empowerment of women, and,
through the United Nations and International Bar Association, pushes for women’s and human rights. Sasnett was elected to the NAWL executive board in 1995, and revitalized the group’s mentor program as chair of the Young Lawyers Committee. She also headed the Internet committee, and served as NAWL’s liaison to the American Bar Association section on Legal Education and Bar Admissions. She is a member of the Florida and American Bar associations, Eighth Judicial Circuit Florida Association of Women Lawyers, a Guardian Ad Litem volunteer, and on the board of directors of Florida Lawyers Assistance, Inc.
