The Office of Admissions is seeking new members for the Student Recruitment Team (SRT) to help recruit the nation’s top candidates to the Levin College of Law. SRT is a group of 40 current law students, which conducts campus tours, discusses law school experiences with prospective law students, and occasionally participates in recruitment events on behalf of UF Law. The members of the team also assist with campus events such as Admitted Students Day and the Road Map programs. In addition, team members have the opportunity to travel around the nation to represent UF Law at recruiting events, participate in panel discussions, or speak to student organizations regarding UF Law admissions. One hour per week and participation in one of the special events are the minimum commitments for the program. To learn more about the Student Recruitment Team and for an application, attend an informational meeting Wednesday, Aug. 31, at noon in HOL 285A. For more information contact Noemar Castro.

The Florida chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates recently selected Jeff Garvin (JD 73) as its Trial Lawyer of the Year. With this recognition also came the responsibility to select a trial advocacy program to direct a gift that ABOTA would sponsor. Garvin selected UF’s trial advocacy program as the recipient to the gift, which makes it the second gift from ABOTA in the past two years. Garvin, left, is pictured here with Legal Skills Professor Jennifer Zedalis and ABOTA-Florida Chapter shareholder Bob Cole.

The Levin College of Law is holding a free barbecue for all students, faculty and staff Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Marcia Whitney Schott Courtyard. The food is from Hill’s Bar-B-Que in Gainesville and the event is sponsored by the Gene K. and Elaine Glasser Endowment. The Glassers, who are both UF alumni, also sponsored last year’s barbecue. They hope the annual event will foster a greater sense of community among people at the law school. “The law school education I received at the University of Florida has greatly influenced my professional and personal life, creating lasting memories with my friends,” said Gene Glasser, a Fort Lauderdale attorney who received his Juris Doctor degree from UF Law in 1972. The event is a great chance for incoming students to get to know one another and feel like a part of the law school community.
