Ben F. Overton (JD 52), former Florida Supreme Court Justice, University of Florida Levin College of Law alumnus and adjunct professor died Saturday, Dec. 29, in Gainesville of complications from heart surgery. He was 86 and was Florida’s 62nd justice since statehood.

This past fall, Stacey Steinberg (JD 03) joined the Legal Writing and Appellate Advocacy Department after spending almost a decade advocating in the courtroom. Her experience working with vulnerable individuals will provide students a real life perspective on the practice of law.

It’s been said that finding a job right out of law school used be a lot like stepping onto an escalator and choosing when to get off. If this were ever true, the Great Recession certainly changed it. The nation’s weak economy, which since 2008 has been frustratingly persistent, has had a major impact on the legal profession and has made the job market for recent law graduates much more difficult.
