<p><a href="http://www.alligator.org/news/campus/article_45020772-9043-11e2-b7e7-0019bb2963f4.html">“Like other schools, UF law school working to expand fellowships” (March 19, 2013, <i>The Alligator</i>)</a></p>
<p>The article looks at a national trend of law schools helping to ensure real-world experience for graduates. Birrenkott weighed in on what steps UF Law is taking in this area.</p>
<p>From the article:<br />
Rob Birrenkott, the interim assistant dean in career development at the Levin College of Law, said now is an interesting time for law because there is a lot of innovation in the field.</p>
<p>“What UF is doing is taking bits and pieces of different approaches,” Birrenkott said.</p>
<p>For the past two years, UF’s law school has had a postgraduate fellowship program that allows students to partner with entities to help underserved populations, he said.</p>

<p>Rush gave a three-hour “Introduction to Constitutional Law” course to the Polish Bar on March 13 in Warsaw, Poland. The program was equivalent to UF Law’s CLE programs.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p id="ccd">During the past year, Assistant Director for Career Development Rob Birrenkott has volunteered on the 8th Judicial Circuit Bar Association (EJCBA) board of directors. In early June, he won the EJCBA&#8217;s President&#8217;s Award. His focus has been to integrate UF Law students with the local legal community. During the past year:</p>
<ul>
<li>The EJCBA created a new law student membership category;</li>
<li>The EJCBA launched a law student mentoring program;</li>
<li>EJCBA opened up committee leadership positions to law students;</li>
<li>UF Law students created a new student organization (8th Judicial Circuit Law Student Association <a href="http://www.ejclsa.info/">www.ejclsa.info</a>) to facilitate law-students involvement with the local legal community;</li>
<li>Procured a $3,000 grant from The Florida Bar. These proceeds:
<ul>
<li>Enabled UF Law to host the North Central Florida Diversity Forum;</li>
<li>Will enable local youth to travel to the Florida Supreme Court in the spring of 2012 in conjunction with the &#8220;Street Law&#8221; program conducted by the Josiah T. Walls Bar Association and UF Law&#8217;s Black Law Student Association; and</li>
<li>Will support a proposal from the Center for Children and Families at the University of Florida Levin College of Law aimed at reducing disproportionate minority youth involvement in the criminal justice system.</li>
</ul>
</li>
