Environmental & Land Use Law Program News
There will be an informational meeting for the Environmental and Land Use Law Program, noon-1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, in Room 355D Holland Hall.
The Environmental and Land Use Law Program offers many opportunities for students to become involved and learn about these important areas of law. At the meeting, students will learn critical information about the ELUL program, including the requirements for earning a Certificate in Environmental and Land Use Law, and details about the curriculum, including the Conservation Clinic, summer externships, Summer Study Abroad in Costa Rica, the Environmental and Land Use Law Society, the Environmental Moot Court Team, and the Public Interest Environmental Conference.
Students who attend will also have the chance to meet and talk with some of the ELULP faculty and to get individual advice on course selection for summer and fall and career development guidance. All students with an interest are encouraged to attend, but especially first-year students—this is the ideal opportunity to get the best possible information to plan your academic program for your second year. This is an excellent opportunity for currently enrolled certificate students to get answers to questions about certificate requirements, course availability, etc.
Environmental Program Potluck Reception

Real Property Law Association Launched
The Real Property Law Association (RPLA) has launched at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. The RPLA was formed to facilitate learning and networking for future attorneys interested in pursuing careers in real property and it is the only student organization currently operating directly in conjunction with The Florida Bar. The organization was formed with generous donations of time and funds from Ruden McClosky and the assistance of First American Title Insurance Company.
In May, the RPLA sent representatives to the Florida Bar Real Property Probate & Trust Law Section (RPPTL) convention where the UF representatives helped with the formation of a clerk database. The clerk database will allow practicing RPPTL members to browse through members of the RPLA and its sister organizations for potential clerks.
Currently, the RPLA is engaged in pro-bono research projects with prominent Florida attorneys regarding future state legislation. In September, the RPLA will team again with First American Title Company to host a meet and greet between RPLA members and local attorneys, providing UF Law students the opportunity to meet with potential future employers and peers. The RPLA encourages any current or future UF Law student to contact the RPLA via email at bkimball@ufl.edu for more information.
Moot Court Team Intramural Competition Informational Meeting
The Levin College of Law’s Justice Campbell Thornal Moot Court Team will hold an informational meeting on its intramural tryout competition at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, in Room 285B Holland Hall.
One of the foremost national moot court teams, the Justice Campbell Thornal Moot Court Team competes each year at over a dozen tournaments throughout the country. Comprised of UF Law students, the team has received numerous state and national awards. New members are selected each year from all third semester students who try out for the team. To be eligible to try out, students must have completed appellant advocacy and be in good academic standing.
Each year, the team holds a five week tryout competition, which requires interested students to write an appellate brief and then present two oral arguments before a panel of student/faculty judges. If you have any questions, email Elizabeth Faist, intramural chair, at efaist@ufl.edu.
IPTLA to Hold Officer Elections Meeting
The Intellectual Property and Technology Law Association (IPTLA) will have its 2007-08 officer elections meeting, 6-6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, in Room 283 Holland Hall.
Available positions include president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. IPTLA serves students interested in intellectual property or technology-related law. Participation in IPTLA is an excellent way to learn about opportunities in intellectual property law, summer associate positions and the patent bar, and to meet and socialize with other students. First-year students are especially welcome.
Legal Information Center Hours for Fall 2007
The Legal Information Center extends its welcome to all returning and new students. LIC staff members hope to support students in achieving a successful and productive school year in whatever ways they can.
Hours for Fall 2007
Monday-Thursday - 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Friday - 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Saturday - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday - 1:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
The library will be closed on Saturdays of home football games (Sept. 1, 8, 15, and 29, and Nov. 3, 17, and 24). This is because on game days, all parking at the law school is unavailable, and fans who tailgate in the area frequently enter the library and cause problems.
Please remember the food and drink policy for the library (they’re still trying to keep the place nice.):
- No food
- Coffee only in travel mug with a closeable lid (no paper or Styrofoam cups)
- Other drinks in a “sports” bottle or other container with a spill-proof lid.
For more information, visit the library’s web page at http://www.law.ufl.edu/lic/.
