Michael L. Seigel
Professor
- Orlando Sentinel, August 29. Quoted in the story reporting on NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak’s attorney’s plan to rely on insanity as a defense. Legal experts say insanity at the time of the crime is not easy to prove, and Seigel believes this to be true as well. He said, "It's a way a jury that has sympathy for her can find her not guilty. It gives them a legal hook to hang their hat on."
Christopher Slobogin
Stephen C. O’Connell Chair; Affiliate Professor of Psychiatry; Adjunct Professor, University of South Florida Mental Health Institute; Associate Director, Center on Children and Families
- The Houston Chronicle August 29. Quoted in a story on Lisa Nowak, saying if the former NASA Astronaut were to be found not guilty by reason of insanity, under Florida statutes she would be confined to a mental hospital for up to six months while doctors evaluate whether she poses a danger.
