UF Law Faculty in the News
J. Michael Patrick
Assistant Dean of Admissions
- The Independent Florida Alligator, Sept. 5. Quoted in an article regarding the United States Commission on Civil Rights asking government officials to make law schools release detailed information about affirmative action policies and the success of admitted minority students. Patrick said diversity is important because law students will eventually serve society, but the school does not aim for a certain number of students from any minority group. "This is information that's layered and has gone over a long period of time. Things really haven't changed that much since affirmative action was on the table."
Christopher L. Peterson
Associate Professor
- San Diego Union Tribune Sept. 10. Quoted in an article discussing the lack of reporting of potential health risks by the VeriChip corporation. Peterson said, this is the company's attempt to never be held accountable for any potential health problems that may develop from the use of its product and is directly quoted, "But courts will enforce that language only so far."
Michael L. Seigel
Professor
- St. Petersburg Times, Sept. 10. Quoted in article saying he wouldn't be surprised to see a revised indictment handed up with more specific details regarding University of South Florida engineering students who were pulled over in South Carolina and indicted by a grand jury in Tampa for transporting explosives in interstate commerce without permits. "They have to have some theory that they weren't just carrying these bombs, but they were carrying them with some intent," Seigel said.
