Bob Dekle
Legal Skills Professor
- Daytona Beach News-Journal, Sept. 15, 2008
Quoted in an article on judge deciding whether Cornelius Baker, 21, will spend the rest of his life in prison or die by lethal injection.
The jury vote also makes a difference in appeals, Dekle said. "In my experience the more one-sided the majority is, the more likely the death penalty is to stand up on appeal. Seven to five is very iffy. Eight to four is kind of iffy. You are getting there with a nine to three."

Hamann said the state's water agencies should be given authority to dictate appropriate water levels for wildlife without political interference. "There's a tremendous amount of pressure to supply water for future growth," he said.

Pedro Malavet
Professor
- Gainesville Sun Op-Ed, Sept. 13, 2008
Wrote an Op-Ed article on the anniversary of desegregation of UF’s College of Law.
"As the university enters its 50th year of desegregation, it is appropriate to reflect on the tremendous progress we’ve made towards the ultimate goal of racial integration," he wrote. "The bitter civil rights struggle that first opened the doors of educational opportunity to people of color on this campus seems very far removed from modern experience — as do the individual struggles of the men and women who put themselves on the line to push those doors wide."
