Sedona E-Discovery conference Tuesday
The Sedona “E-Discovery Evening” will address the changing world of e-discovery tomorrow, Oct. 28, 5-9 p.m. in the Chesterfield Smith Ceremonial Classroom (180 HOL). Lawyers and information technology professionals alike are faced with legal issues regarding the management and storage of electronic information. This conference will feature a panel and audience collaborative discussion of current e-discovery issues.

Dean Patrick honored by scholarship
Assistant Dean of Admissions Michael Patrick was honored Friday with a scholarship endowed in his name. “The ceremony was very pleasant and very nice,” Patrick said. “Even though it was a day that law school wasn’t in session, there was a large group of faculty there.” Frank Goldstein of The Goldstein Law Group will donate $40,000 towards scholarships for University of Florida Levin College of Law students in Patrick’s name.

Lidsky speaks on voting rights at Obama rally
Professor Lyrissa C. Barnett Lidsky spoke Wednesday to the largest group she’s ever spoken to—a crowd of over 10,000 people. Lidsky was one of many local citizens to warm up the crowd for Michelle Obama, presidential candidate Barack Obama’s wife. The event took place at the Hippodrome as part of the Obama campaign’s “Early Vote for Change” tour.

Sixth Annual Minority Picnic Nov. 1
For the third year in a row, Ruden McClosky will generously sponsor a bus for 40 UF law students to attend the Sixth Annual Minority Mentoring Picnic on Saturday, Nov. 1, in Hialeah, Fla. All minority students, including, but not limited to black, Hispanic, Caribbean, Asian, women, law students with disabilities, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered students are invited to join.

How to register for a law clinic
There are several requirements for students to be eligible to register for UF law clinics. Law students who have completed 48 credit hours may be certified by the Florida Supreme Court to appear in court on behalf of an indigent person while under supervision of a lawyer in an ABA-approved law school practice program (clinic).

Professors talk politics, economics and human rights
Perea was interviewed on Amendment 1 and said, “This is an old amendment that should be done away with.” The amendment was enacted early in the 20th century and Perea says it was done for the wrong reasons. “Even though this amendment wasn't strictly enforced, its rare that voters can take away something like this. This is a chance to take an embarrassing amendment off the books forever.”

Federal Bar program on career opportunities in federal practice Oct. 29
The local chapter of The Federal Bar Association and the Center for Career Services are co-sponsoring a lunch program on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at noon in 345 HOL on career opportunities in federal practice. Speakers will include federal judge Gary R. Jones from Ocala, Stephanie Marchman, president of the local chapter of The Federal Bar and staff attorney for the City of Gainesville, and Peg O'Connor, attorney with Turner & Hodge, LL.P. Come meet your law school liaisons, Alexis Cooper and Harlan McGuire to hear how you can get involved with this organization.
The Role of Race in the 2008 election Oct. 30
The Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations (CSRRR) invites you to a discussion on the role of race in the 2008 elections. The discussion, moderated by Professor Jacobs, will be a great opportunity to meet fellow students and share your thoughts concerning the role that race has played in the upcoming election. The event will take place on Thursday, Oct.30 at noon in 359 HOL. Space is limited, so those who wish to attend should sign-up on the CSRRR TWEN page. Phi Alpha Delta extends application deadline to Friday
Phi Alpha Delta, the largest legal fraternity in the nation, has extended its application deadline for membership to Friday, Oct. 31. The membership application can be found at www.PAD.org. Members who sign up before the deadline will have their first semester local chapter dues waived. New member initiation will be held on Nov. 3. PAD is also looking for new members to fill two open chair positions. This is a great opportunity to get involved in Phi Alpha Delta. For questions contact Katrina Gavette at klgavette@ufl.edu.
UF Law employees honored for service Oct. 21
UF Law employees were honored for their service to the university at a pinning ceremony in the Rare Book Room on Oct. 21. Among those honored were Linda Calvert-Hanson (5 years), Laura Coates (15 years), Janet Plumley (20 years), Deepa Prasad (5 years), Terry Rogers (30 years), Glenda Sawyer (35 years) and Debbie Willis (15 years).

FAWL sponsoring accessory drive for underprivileged women
In collaboration with the non-profit organization, Dress for Success, the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL) at UF will be sponsoring an accessory drive throughout the month of October to help economically underprivileged women get that first interview. During October, students are encouraged to bring accessories, including jewelry, scarves and handbags/purses no longer in use but in good condition. Students can deposit their contributions at the Career Services office in the Dress for Success drop box. Please join us and help disadvantaged women take charge of their lives.
