Substance, Skills and Field Trips Converge in Costa Rica

Costa RicaAn informational meeting on the Summer 08 Law Program in Costa Rica will be held at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Holland Hall 284. Students interested in environmental law, international and comparative law and law and policy in the Americas should consider the UF Law Costa Rica program. The six week summer program at the University of Costa Rica in San Jose is unique in the extent to which substance, skills and field work are integrated into a cross-cultural classroom that includes students from law schools throughout the United States and Latin America.

In 2007 the Program offered international and comparative environmental law, international environmental justice, the international & comparative environmental law skills lab and the UF Law Conservation Clinic. These courses came together as students addressed climate change, trade, the law of the sea and comparative natural resource and property law. Related field trips included a two day white water rafting trip, and visits to the neotropics oldest rain forest research station and the Tortuguero sea turtle research centeron Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast.
