Faculty Scholarship & Activities

DavisJeffrey Davis
Professor; Gerald A. Sohn Scholar
  • Jan. 29, 2009, Orlando Sentinel
“Many of the community banks appear ready to lend. I've seen some with big signs up saying ‘we have money, come on in,’” said Davis. “In the earlier funding, the big banks pretty much got a blank check, but they used the money mostly to shore up their balance sheets. I don't think the community banks will get the same blank check.”

DekleGeorge "Bob" Dekle
Legal Skills Professor
  • Jan. 29, Orlando Sentinel and Sun Sentinel
Dekle was interviewed about the Caylee Anothony case and the request from the defense to remove prosecutors from the case. "These sorts of motions are more common in high-stakes cases, like death-penalty cases," said Bob Dekle. "When the stakes get very high, things tend to get surreal, and things happen...that don't normally happen in the run-of-the-mill shoplifting and DUI cases."

WolfMichael Allan Wolf
Richard E. Nelson Chair in Local Government Law; Professor
  • Jan. 9, 2009, New York Times
Wolf was quoted in the New York Times discussing expensive golf communities going bankrupt and closing golf courses. The article focused on what it means for homeowners who purchased expensive homes or lots who have now lost all equity. “They didn’t care how much they spent on the golf course because they were making so much money on lot sales,” said Michael Allan Wolf.

WrightDanaya Wright
Chesterfield Smith Professor; Director of Center for Study of Race and Race Relations
  • Jan. 27, 2009, Bloomberg News, Sun Sentinel and Washington Post
Richard Fuld the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. chairman who led the firm into bankruptcy, transferred his $13.3 million Florida home to his wife last year for $100, property records show. “Florida does have very strong homestead protection, which is designed to protect the principal family home from creditors — it’s in the Florida Constitution,” said Danaya Wright.
