Users should check out items
at the Circulation Desk. Gator1 student I.D. cards
are required to obtain library materials and must
be activated
in order to function as library cards.
Books, which are not in the Reserve Collection, may be charged out for 8 weeks to graduate students; they may be renewed unless in demand. They must be returned or renewed by 9:00 a.m. on day following due date. Books may be renewed online.
Bound journal volumes, which are not in the Reserve Collection (located behind the Circulation Desk), may be charged out for a maximum of 24 hours. These bound journals may be charged out at any time during the day, but are due at 9:00 A.M the next day.
All books shelved in the Reserve Collection are on two-hour reserve and may be renewed only if not in demand. They may be checked out overnight 1 ½ hours prior to closing, in which case, they must be returned ½ hour after opening the following day.
Non-UF patrons will first need to obtain a Courtesy Borrower library card from the Main Campus Libraries. Circulating items are charged out for 3 weeks with a limit of two titles per patron. Overdue items will flag the record and block additional checkouts. Repeated lateness may result in cancellation of a borrower card and University Libraries privileges.
Please restrict use of cell phones while in the library.
Off-campus online access to UF Libraries' databases
The UF Community can access a number of online resources, even when not on campus.
If you are using a PC that is connected to your university's network, or if you dial into your university's network, then you are already mapped to a State Univeristy Sytem IP address and will be able to access these resources.
However, if you connect to the internet using a connection other than a State University System (SUS) account (dialup or network), and you are a registered student or a member of the faculty at a state university in Florida, you can configure your browser to use the proxy service. You can then gain access by entering the barcode numbers from your Gator1 Card.
Overdue fines and lost materials
All fines are paid through Student Financial Affairs, the minimum fine is $1.00. Non-Reserve Material-Fines will be assessed at the rate of 25 cents per day and fraction thereof, from the day following the due date. Reserve Material-Fines will be assessed at the rate of $1.00 for each hour overdue and fraction thereof. As a courtesy, the Law Library sends overdue notices. Students who have overdue books will be barred by the University Library computer system from checking out any materials until the overdue items are returned. Students who do not return overdue materials timely will be referred to the Honor Court at the law school for determination of appropriate action. Our fines policy is the same as the Smathers Libraries policy.
Students will be billed at the University Business Office for the current replacement cost of lost material and, additionally, the overdue fine for the period up to the date of the determination that the material is lost (maximum $40). All overdue material, for which overdue notices have been rendered, if not returned within two weeks of such notice, will be considered as lost material.
Checking out a study room
There are 12 study rooms available on the second floor of the library. Law students may checkout available rooms for a two-hour period. Each study room needs at least two ID’s to be checked out and room 247 (the larger 6 person room) needs at least four ID’s. All law students must be present with their ID’s. This is to ensure that the rooms are being used fairly for group study sessions only. A key will be checked out to a representative for the group, and this person will be responsible for any fines that will accrue if the room becomes overdue. Students may renew a room after the initial two-hour period ONLY if there is nobody waiting. Failure to return the key to a study room on time will result in a non-refundable charge of $35.00.
Reserving a study room
Students may reserve rooms in advance. However, they may only reserve one 2-hour slot for the current day and/or one 2-hour slot for the next day. If patrons have reached their limit, they cannot reschedule until the following day even if rooms are available. This policy is in place so that no one has the opportunity to monopolize any one room or time slot. If all the rooms are full then a group may reserve a slot for the next available room. If however, a room becomes available before a groups’ reservation time, then it is loaned on a first come first serve basis. There is no waiting list.
Lactation/religious observance room
Room 204 is a special needs room and is reserved for nursing mothers and religious prayer only. Those students who wish to use Room 204 need to have their Gator-1 card and will be given a 30-minute time slot to use the room.
Rules
- No food or drink
- Excessive noise may result in a request to leave.
- Violations of any portion of this policy may result in denial of future room use.
