Legal Information Center

General Information

Access

The University of Florida Legal Information Center in Holland Hall is a public facility and is open to the public. Please check our hours pages for specific dates and times.

Some online materials are restricted to UF students, faculty and staff or law students, faculty and staff. Because of security issues we do not provide internet access to non UF patrons. The Reference staff will direct patrons to legal resources but only Florida Bar members are authorized to practice law. Consult our reference policy page for additional information. You may contact the Florida Bar or use the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory for information on practicing attorneys in your area.

Members of the Florida Bar may apply for Legal Information Center borrowing privileges. Contact the Circulation Supervisor [watkins@law.ufl.edu] or fill out an application at the Reserve/Circulation Desk. You must provide a copy of your drivers license and Florida bar card. We will mail you your borrowing card and a copy of your borrowing privileges. Abuse of library regulations may result in loss of your borrowing privileges. Lexis and Westlaw access is not provided. The general public may not check out material for use outside of the building unless a borrowers card is obtained from the Smathers Library on the main UF campus. Certain restrictions apply. The majority of our collection is non-circulating and may not be checked out. Those items that check out may have different loan periods.

Arrangement

Our collection is organized by the Library of Congress classification system with a legal and social science focus. Tax material is a separate collection within the library and is identified as such in the online catalog. Please note that journals are shelved by classification number. Use our online catalog to get a call number and determine if the item you are looking for is on the shelf. If you need additional help contact our Reference desk [willipam@law.ufl.edu].

Copiers

Copy machines are provided to the public. Patrons must purchase a copy card (dollar bills only). The copy machines are not equipped to take money. No change is provided at the library.

Parking

On campus parking is restricted Monday - Friday until 4:30 P.M. A parking permit can be obtained by visiting one of the parking booths on the main campus. Parking restrictions are lifted in many of the lots after 4:30 P.M. weekdays and on the weekends.
