University of Florida law expert available to comment on charges against former Florida GOP chairman

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Michael Seigel, University of Florida Levin College of Law professor and former assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, is available to comment on the arrest of Jim Greer, former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.

Greer was arrested on Wednesday and indicted on six felony counts including organized fraud, money laundering and four counts of grand theft, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Greer had been under investigation since March and is believed to have taken at least $100,000 of Republican Party funds for personal use. His excessive spending as Florida GOP chairman led to his resignation in January.
