UF Law Professor to Speak on the Constitution and Government Surveillance Sept. 19

Atkins and McCarty Posthumously Inducted into UF Law’s Heritage of Leadership
GAINESVILLE, FL—The Honorable C. Clyde Atkins (J.D. 36), an influential judge and a champion of civil rights, and John Moore McCarty (J.D. 41), a former state senator, judge, Florida Bar president and member of the influential 1968 Constitution Revision Commission, were posthumously inducted into the University of Florida Levin College of Law Heritage of Leadership Recognition Society on Friday, Sept. 7. more>>

Research Earns UF Law Professor Consumer Advocate of the Year Award
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators (NACAA) recently awarded University of Florida Law Professor Christopher L. Peterson its Consumer Advocate of the Year Award for 2007 for his research on predatory lending and his advocacy for legislation adopted last year by Congress that caps the interest rate lenders may charge military personnel. more>>

Emeritus Frank Allen Dies; Memorial Services Planned April 20
GAINESVILLE, Fla .-- Francis A. Allen, a
leading legal educator and thinker, died April 6, 2007 at North Florida
Regional Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. Allen taught criminal law for
more than 40 years and was a principal architect of the provision
of legal counsel to indigent defendants, both through his scholarly
writings and his chairmanship of the Attorney General's Commission
on Poverty and the Administration of Federal Criminal Justice, which
led to the Criminal Justice Act of 1964 and the Bail Reform Act of
1966. more>

UF Forum Explores “A Series of Unfortunate Events? A Look
at Race”

high-profile incidents in recent months—from Mel Gibson’s
anti-Semitic meltdown to more serious cases involving the fatal
undercover police killings of groom-to-be Sean Bell and an 88-year-old
grandmother, Kathryn Johnston—have again brought attention
to the subject of racial issues and will serve as the launching
