Please join the Corporate and Securities Litigation Group (CSLG) on Nov. 24, at noon in HOL 345, to hear Professor Jeff Davis' analysis and interpretation of the Delphi Bankruptcy case. Publix sandwiches and refreshments will be provided. In February 1999, at the peak of the tech stock bull market, General Motors spun off its technology and auto parts subsidiary Delphi Corporation for a profit of $9.6 billion. By October 2005, as US auto makers continued to lose market share to foreign competitors, with $11 billion in unfunded pension liabilities for its 200,000 employees, Delphi began what would become a four year bankruptcy process and a microcosm of many of the economic challenges facing the United States.

UF Sports Law Symposium

January 29, 2010

Presented by UF Entertainment and Sports Law Society

2010 will be a very important year for each of the "Big Four" American professional sports leagues. The NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement ("CBA") is set to expire at the end of the 2010 season, the NBA and NHL CBA expire after their respective 2010/11 seasons, and the MLB has until December, 11, 2011 before the current CBA expires.

Thus, next year will be a crucial period full of negotiations between the owners and players' associations in each sport. Instead of permitting the general public to merely read one-sided opinions about existing terms that should be modified or new terms that should be added to these agreements, we would like to bring the issues to the forefront of academia by establishing a group of intellectuals to bargain collectively in Gainesville, Florida and engage in a thoughtful discourse about why CBAs exist, how they help players/owners, key terms that will be argued, etc.
