GAINESVILLE, Fla.– Two South Florida
attorneys have been named to head the alumni support organizations
for the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Michael J. McNerney of Brinkley McNerney
Morgan Solomon & Tatum, Fort Lauderdale, was elected
chairman of the Law Center Association, Inc., Board of Trustees,
and Oscar Sanchez, with Akerman Senterfitt of Miami, was
elected president of the College of Law Alumni Council.
McNerney, a 1973 law school graduate, will
serve a two-year term as head of the LCA, formed in 1960
as the volunteer administrative organization which assists
in the budgeting process and is responsible for major funding
campaigns. Sanchez, a 1982 graduate, heads a council of
more than 200 alumni organized in 1983 that assists with
raising private funds to hep cover expenses not met through
state support, tuition and endowment income.
Serving with Sanchez as council officers
are two Tampa attorneys, president-elect George Vaka ‘83
of Vaka Larson & Johnson and secretary Tim Cerio ‘95
of Gray Harris & Robinson, and immediate-past president
Kenneth Johnson ‘81 of Goodlette Coleman & Johnson
in Naples.
"We are extremely fortunate to have
the dedicated leadership and loyalty of these alumni as
well as the participation of thousands of our graduates
throughout the U.S. and world," Dean Robert Jerry said.
"In our drive to become one of the top 10 public law
schools, it is essential we have the private financial support
necessary to succeed."
Jerry noted the current $22-plus million
facilities expansion at the law school was made possible
by the combined efforts of the two support organizations,
"as was our hiring of 12 outstanding new faculty members
the past year and our ability to continue to fund student
and faculty programs, scholarships and activities."
