Academic Programs
Intellectual Property Law Program Description
"Intellectual property" encompasses several different bodies of law, including patents, trade secrets, copyrights and trademarks. The technology boom is greatly increasing demand not only for patent lawyers, but also for lawyers trained in other areas of Intellectual Property Law and related fields - such as Antitrust, Media, Cyberlaw and general Commercial Law.
The need continues to increase for lawyers who can adapt existing doctrines - or create entirely new ones - to such new fields as genetic engineering, accessing and downloading materials off the internet, and disputes involving domain names, metatags and hyperlinks. The need also is growing for lawyers who can apply these laws in more traditional industries and in the creative arts. And the growth of international trade also increases the demand for lawyers skilled in prosecuting, defending and challenging intellectual property rights on a global scale.

Enrollment Process
Students interested in IP Law Certificate Program must fill out an enrollment form [35KB PDF] and give it to the Program Director before end of their final semester. We recommend, however, you fill out and hand in the form once you decide that you are interested in earning the certificate, so we know of your intent as soon as possible. You then can fill out an updated form during your last semester.
