Fees & Expenses

The basic course fee is $2,500 for University of Florida students and other Florida residents and $3,000 for all others. The course fee covers all academic courses and administrative fees regardless of the number of credits taken. (Other associated costs, such as books and materials, transportation, housing and personal costs, are additional.)

The details of associated costs, like books and materials, transportation, housing, and personal costs, are listed in the budget.

Materials must be purchased by students before departure to South Africa. Accepted students will be given details on how and where they can obtain instructional materials.

All of the housing units are located in De Waterkant. We cannot guarantee any specific units, but we will try to match your preferences as best we can.

Transportation to UCT and field trips to Cape Point, Parliament, Cape Town Bar, Khayelithsha Magistrate’s Court, Goodwind Prison and Stellenbosch wine country will be provided by bus and the cost included in the student budget. A long weekend will be provided midway in the program for safari, volunteer or township experiences that students will arrange and pay for separately.

Meals are not included in program costs and must be arranged by students. Travel to Cape Town is the responsibility of students. All participants must have passports.

Liability and health insurance are the responsibility of each participant. The University of Florida will not be responsible for personal injuries to students or for loss or damage to personal property within or in transit to Cape Town. UF strongly advises students to obtain insurance that provides reimbursement for health care abroad and recommends purchase of travel insurance. Major medical health insurance must be carried by all participants.

Refund and Cancellation Policy:
The $150 deposit to the UF International Center (UFIC) is non-refundable. The University of Florida reserves the right to alter or cancel the program should circumstances warrant. Refunds will be made in the event of cancellation.
