::Other Visiting Options

Students can enroll in other ABA approved institutions as Transient Students or Visiting Students by following the guidelines below. A miscellaneous petition form should be filled out and turned in to the Office of Student Affairs. This petition will be acted upon as soon as possible. You will need to need to review the following prior to that meeting:

  • The Program of Interest
    Check the program's description, dates, cost, requirements and list of courses as well as specific information on classes and credit you intend to take. The school needs to be accredited by the ABA. Request the school's student handbook and/ or catalog, application forms, and any other information needed. Also, make sure you speak with the law school's financial aid representative, as most students do not receive aid while visiting elsewhere and the other schools may have higher tuition and fees. Further consideration should include UF fee increases, as students who are away from UF for longer than two semesters may be subject to the increased fees and tuition rates of the new incoming class.

  • Eligibility Requirements
    Only students who have finished one year of full time study (28 credits or more) and who are in good standing (2.00 or better) at the UF College of Law may enroll in law study for credit at another institution as a Transient Student or Visiting Student.

  • Maximum Transferable Hours
    All students must complete 59 hours from the University of Florida College of Law in order to receive a J.D. degree from UF. The maximum transferable hours is 29 credits hours. (The number of hours may be reduced by hours taken under the graduate course option, joint degree program and other situations, so please verify that you are eligible to transfer in hours from another ABA institution)

Please see the Assistant Dean of Students for additional information.
