Smith-Doheny Legal Ethics Writing Competition
Notre Dame Law School sponsors an annual writing competition on the topic of legal ethics.

The competition is open to all law students at U.S. & Canadian law schools.

Entries should concern any issue within the general category of legal ethics.

Entries must be original, unpublished work.

Prize of $1,000 will be awarded for one winning entry.

All entries must be received before 5 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2004.

2003-2004 George Hutchinson Writing Contest
Entries to this contest may discuss any topic that lies within the procedure, substance, or scope of the jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit.

The competition is open to all law students enrolled in ABA accredited law schools. We permit and encourage students to base their entries on papers that they prepared for law school courses and seminars during the 2003/2004 school year.

Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000) will be awarded to the entry deemed by the judges to be the best entry and to merit the award. Second and third place cas prizes may also be awarded at the discretion of the judges. In additon, the winner will receive significant favorable publicity.

Must be postmarked before June 1, 2004.

2004 Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition
The objective of the Competition is to increase the interest in the law of Copyright and to improve the style of legal writing. This is for third-year law students.

At each participating law school, a first and second prize will be awarded to students whose papers are certified by the Dean as the best essays on any aspect of Copyright Law.

Prize money is $600 for first prize and $250 for second prize. All first place local winners will be eligible to participate in a national competition. The entries will be judged by a panel to be selected by, and in the sole discretion of, the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. The judges may award first, second and third natinal prizes, for which ASCAP will give cash prize of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The national award winners may also be eligible for publication on the Journal of The Copyright Society.

American Helath Lawyers Association
2003-2004 Student Writing Competition on Corporate Responsibility in Healthcare Organizations.

Application of new corporate responsibility rules to the healthcare sector, with its extensive regulatory underpinnings and unique mix of investor-owned and non-profit entities, provides students with a wide range of issues on which to focus their papers, including, but not limited to: Oversight duties of board members; Criminal liability for breaches of ethics; Conflicts of interest in board service; Audit committee liability, responsibility, and conflicts; and Disclosure issues.

2003-2004 Louis Jackson National Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law
Topic: Judges will consider papers on any topic relating to the law governing the workplace, such as employment law, labor law, employee benefits, or employment discrimination.

Entries must be the law student author's own work and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere. Authors must have completed or be currently taking course work in employment or labor law, and must be enrolled in an accreditied law school during the Fall 2003 semester.

Awards: One top honors award of $3,000 and two $1,000 awards will be presented to the top three entries.

Foley & Lardner 5th Annual Intellectual Property Writing Competition
Acceptable topics are as broad as a candidate's initiative, creativity, and vision. Representative examples include, but are not limited to: Focus on metrics or other measurements of intellectual asset management performance; Protecing intellectual property rights to maximize competitive opportunites; Extracting untapped value from intellectual property; Auditing patents to determine whether they should be enforced, licensed, donated, or terminated; identifying prospective IP licensees.

Eligiblilty: Individuals who are currently enrolled in their first or second year of a three-year full-time Juris Doctor program.

The American Bar Association Section of Business Law
Each law school, acting through its dean, is asked to nominate, by Febrauary 3, 2004, a ppaer considering aspects of business law written in the 2002-2003 or current academic year by a student enrolled in the law school.

The paper may be specifically prepared for this contest; submitted in a class, seminar, or as an independent study; or a proposed law review/journal not, comment or article.

The contest encourage and reward law student writings on business law subject of general and current interest.

"Business Law" is a broad category. The American Business Law Journal Writing Contest
Entries should address any area of business law, broadly interpreted, including but not liminted to antitrust, banking, bankruptcy, business organization, contracts, environmental, constitutional, e-commerce, employment, ethics, financial, internatinal, property, securities, and torts.

Paralyzed Veterans of Amercia legal Writing Competition
Topic: Should members of the Board of Veterans' Appeals be required to qualify as administrative law judges?

Entrants should address this question and support the result; PVA hopes to receive articles reaching all possible conclusions. Entrants may wish to address the nature of the judicial function, the various models of adjudication and the history of ALJs.

Prizes of $1,000.00 each will be awarded to the law student entries deemed by the judges to be the best entry on each side of the issue.

Cash prizes of $500.00 each will be awarded to the professional entries deemed by the judges to be the best entry on each side of the issue.

Other cash prizes may also be awarded at the discretion of the judges to papers of particular merit.

In addition, the winner will receive active assistance from PVA in publishing the paper in appropriate professional publications and/or presenting the paper at appropriate professional association gatherings.

Asian Law Journal Student Writing Competition
Asisan Law Journal is sponsoring a student writing competition to encourage legal scholarship addressing the legal issues affecting Asian Pacific Americans.

Entrants must be students currently enrolled at an accredited law school or recent law school graduates.

Submissions must be original, unplublished works exploring legal issues that impact the Asian Pacific American community. They welcome focused analyses of individual Asian Pacific American ethnic groups, as well as discussions of domestic or international issues affecting, Asian Pacific American in general.

Submissions must be at least twenty-five pages, double-spaced, 12 point font, with one inch margins.

Submissions should include a cover letter with the author's name, current address, current telephone number, and current e-mail address. In addition, authors shouldsend a Microsoft Word versioin of the manuscript either (1) on an IBM formatted 3.5 floppy disk or (2) via e-mail to jjk830@boalthall.berkeley.edu.

Citations must be at the bottom of the page and conform to a A Uniform System of Citation (17th ed.).

ELI invites lw students to write a 3,000-word essay on a legal topric facing the music industry today.
