About Us
One of the foremost national moot court teams, the Florida Moot Court Team competes each year at over a dozen tournaments throughout the country. Founded in 1961, the team's mission is to promote excellence in appellate advocacy.
Comprised of students from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, the team has received numerous state and national awards. New members are selected each fall from all third semester students who try out for the team. To be eligible to try out, students must have completed appellant advocacy and be in good academic standing. While there are other moot court teams present on the College of Law’s campus, the Florida Moot Court Team is the most prestigious of the teams.
During the summer and early fall, the board holds a try-out competition which requires interested students to write an appellate brief and then present two oral arguments before a panel of student / faculty judges. The competition is sponsored by the Orlando firm of Zimmerman, Kiser & Sutcliffe, P.A., and the law firm Holland & Knight LLP. The top four students compete in the annual Final Four Competition held at the College of Law.
