Trial Team Intramural Try-Outs

Poise, Persuasion, Style

The University of Florida Trial Team holds tryouts during the fall semester for all third semester students.

Tryouts consist of three rounds of competition. Each advocate will be given a competition packet that includes all the case information. For Round I, advocates must prepare and present a Closing Argument for the side of the case assigned to them. In Round II, advocates must prepare and present a Closing Argument for the other side of the case. In Round III, advocates must prepare an Opening Statement, a Direct Examination, and a Cross Examination for the side of the case to which they are assigned.

Based on the cumulative scoring of the judges evaluating Round III, those competitors who are deemed capable of upholding University of Florida s legacy of excellence in mock trial competition are then invited to join the team. Additionally, the four highest- scoring advocates from Round III advance to our Final Four Competition.

In the Final Four Competition, the top four advocates selected from Round III are placed into two teams and present a complete trial to the law school community. The two teams compete for the title of Best Overall Team and one member is awarded Best Overall Advocate of the Intramural competition.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Trial Team, please sign up for the Trial Team Intramural Competition site on the Twen page for more information.
