Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an ID card?
All UF students are required to have a Gator 1 Card. The processing fee for the Gator 1 Card is $15.00. Please bring the payment with some kind of picture ID and/or your social security card to get your Gator 1 Card. If you have an old Gator 1 Card, you will need to acquire a new card identifying you as a Law Student. Be advised that the Levin College of Law uses the Gator 1 Card picture to compile a "Face Book" that will be distributed after classes start so you can put names to all those new faces!

***Be advised that Gator 1 Card will not be processed at the Levin College of Law. You will need to go to the ID Card Services & Welcome Center, at the Reitz Union, Room G071. For more information visit their webpage at: http://www.gator1card.ufl.edu/

What is a "hold"?
Holds are administrative flags placed on your records due to incomplete immunization records, overdue fees, library or parking fines, past due balances to the University for housing, tuition, or past due balances through the Student Health Care Center. Once a hold has been placed on your record, you cannot order transcripts, enrollment certifications or register for classes.

If you have a hold on your record, it is your responsibility to have your hold released by the department that placed the hold. First semester students with a hold should contact the Office of Student Affairs at 352.273.0620, after having the hold removed, so that you may be registered for classes. If your hold is removed past the add/drop deadline, you will be subject to a $100 late registration fee.

What are my fees and when are they due?
All first semester students are automatically registered for 16 credit hours. Fees may be paid with a MasterCard or Visa credit card, on ISIS by accessing the Make Payments button or now via electronic funds transfer from your checking account, (see details at http://www.isis.ufl.edu; then, click on EFT sign under the Financial Information menu.) If you are receiving financial aid, the fees will be automatically deducted from your aid.

It is very important to note that the University of Florida is a self-fee assessing university, which means that you will NOT receive a bill for your tuition. You must assess and pay your own fees by the stated deadlines unless you have some form of deferment.

Is there an Office of Veterans Affairs?
The Office of Veterans Affairs is located in 222 Criser Hall. You may contact John Gephardt at 392-1374. The office personnel provide general information relevant to students who are military veterans. Questions about your status as a veteran, eligibility for services after a change of academic programs, or how modification of dependents may affect your benefits can be addressed to this office.

How may I arrange accommodations if I have a disability?
Students with disabilities who seek accommodations are required to self-identify. The first step in receiving accommodations is for you to register with the ADA office in 205 Peabody Hall, (352) 392-1261 (voice) or 392-3008 (TDD). If you were registered with the ADA office as a University of Florida undergraduate, you must re-register to receive accommodations for law school. Accommodations are provided on an individual basis and are coordinated at the College by the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. Please see, Assistant Dean if you anticipate needing accommodations. For more information on the University of Florida ADA office see: http://www.ada.ufl.edu/.

Can I work while attending law school?
As a full-time law school, the Levin College of Law adheres to American Bar Association policy requiring students to devote all of their working hours to the study of law. Academic schedules and minimum load requirements are designed to reflect this policy. First-year students are prohibited from employment. Other students may not be employed more than 20 hours per week.
