New Student Requirements and Important Information

Technology Services

The Fredric G. Levin College of Law relies extensively on computing technologies and network communications in all aspects of student life. We believe it is imperative to prepare our students to be technologically sophisticated in the use of computers and computerized legal research. Because of this major emphasis on access to network information, the Levin College of Law requires that all entering J.D. students own a portable (notebook or laptop) computer. Please review the mandatory laptop requirements.

University of Florida Identification Number (UFID)

The UFID is an eight-digit number (#### - ####) that replaces your Social Security number (SSN) as the primary way to identify you in University records and transactions. A UFID number is assigned to every student. After this time, go to www.it.ufl.edu/ufid/ to determine your UFID.

GatorLink

GatorLink is an individual's computer network identity at the University of Florida. Every applicant, student, faculty and staff member is expected to have a GatorLink username and password. A GatorLink account provides a username@ufl.edu e-mail address. Official university communications are sent to students at this email address. For assistance, you may call 352-392-HELP.

To avoid missing important information, please establish your e-mail address as soon as possible. You must sign up prior to Introduction to Law School & the Profession. To establish your GatorLink account, go to www.gatorlink.ufl.edu and click “Create New Account.” Please note – you must know your UFID prior to creating a GatorLink account.

At the start of fall semester, the Office of Student Affairs will add your e-mail to our "all law listserve" and "student-activities listserve". These are used to inform students about administrative and campus wide issues. Administrative messages and announcements are also often posted on a glass covered bulletin board in front of the Office of Student Affairs. The Office of Student Affairs encourages students to use our e-mail address: student.svc@law.ufl.edu for general questions, inquiries to specific staff members and financial aid information. This electronic mail is routed to the appropriate staff member and responses are returned as soon as possible.

Gator 1 Card

All UF students are required to have a Gator 1 Card. The processing fee for the Gator 1 Card is $15.00. Please bring the payment with some kind of picture ID and/or your social security card to get your Gator 1 Card. If you have an old Gator 1 Card, you will need to acquire a new card identifying you as a Law Student. Be advised that the Levin College of Law uses the Gator 1 Card picture to compile a "Face Book" that will be distributed after classes start so you can put names to all those new faces!

***Be advised that your Gator 1 Card will not be processed at the Levin College of Law. You will need to go to the ID Card Services & Welcome Center, at the Reitz Union, Room G071. For more information visit their webpage at: http://www.gator1card.ufl.edu/

Integrated Student Information System (ISIS)

UF's secure Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) is a system where you can view information about the status of your financial aid award file, required documents not yet received, fee deferments, and more. Be sure to keep your addresses (local home mailing and permanent) up to date through this system as well. You can access ISIS at www.isis.ufl.edu AFTER establishing your GatorLink username and password.

Transcripts & Immunization

Transcripts

Request a certified transcript from every institution of higher learning that you have attended and have it sent to the University of Florida Registrar’s Office. The address is: University of Florida, Office of the University Registrar, 222 Criser Hall, Box 114000, Gainesville, FL 32611-4000

Immunization

Complete the Mandatory Immunization and Health History Form, which was included in an earlier mailing from the Levin College of Law Admissions Office at the University of Florida. You can download the form and fax or mail it to the address provided on the form.

Failure to complete and return this form to the Student Health Care Center can result in an administrative "hold" on your record. This hold will inhibit you to access your records, register for classes, receive certification of enrollment for student loan deferments, nor can you receive any services that require you to be currently enrolled in the Student Records System. *If you attended UF as an undergraduate (and you therefore, already have your record on file) and if NONE OF YOUR RECORDS, HISTORY, ETC., HAS CHANGED, you do NOT need to complete a new form. You DO need to make sure that you have had TWO measles and ONE rubella shot, and that it is part of your record as well. This record was not in effect previous to 1990.

Classes are registered in a batch prior to the beginning of Introduction to Law School and the Profession, thus, it is important to verify that you have completed this requirement as soon as possible. If you have questions or need assistance with this requirement, you may contact the Student Health Care Center at (352) 392-1161, ext. 4309 or 4312.

Parking Information

Please visit www.law.ufl.edu/about/parking.shtml to learn more about commuting to the law school and parking on campus. You can also visit www.parking.ufl.edu to view parking maps and parking decal prices. For information on getting to school, www.law.ufl.edu/about/parking.shtml

Residency

If you are an out-of-state resident, you will pay more in fees per credit hour than will in-state Florida residents. However, once you have started your first term at the Levin College of Law, you can request a reclassification of your residency status. You must establish and maintain a legal Florida residence for at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes in the semester for which in-state residency status is sought. For more information on this process and to download the Residency Reclassification Form, go to www.admissions.ufl.edu/residency.
