2009 Project Spotlight

Clinic projects in 2009 were principally focused on the governance of Costa Rica’s freshwater and marine resources. This year’s projects included working with NGOs on a citizen-driven initiative to reform Costa Rica’s antiquated 1942 water law, including draft language for the protection of Costa Rica’s “wild and scenic” rivers, creating a handbook on responsible sport fishing, and reviewing international human rights and environmental law related to the construction of hydropower dams. Other projects included an analysis of the potential for an eco-label for pineapple production and designing an environmental law clinic for the Brazilian Federal University of Para.
