When I started at UF Law, I knew exactly what area of law I wanted to go into – health care. Despite knowing I wanted to pursue a career in health law, I had no idea how to gain the experience necessary to practice in such a niche area of law. Throughout my time at UF Law, I have not only gained the knowledge necessary to be an attorney, but also the real-world experiences to be successful. My experience at UF Law has provided an invaluable network of peers and advisors that have supported me every step of the way.

My experience at UF Law is a tribute to how the Gator Nation works relentlessly to ensure every student’s academic and professional success regardless of their area of focus. After the first semester of my 1L year, UF alumni and various professors, including Professor D. Daniel Sokol and Adjunct Professor Andrei Boyarshinov, helped me network and connected me with valuable opportunities.

With the independence to shape my law school education through course selection and externship programs, I soon immersed myself in courses such as Business Enterprise Survey, General Counsel Practicum, Law & Entrepreneurship, and Health Care Finance and Delivery. I also was given the opportunity to supplement my classroom learning by participating in externship programs both at the UF General Counsel’s Office for Health Affairs and UF Health Shands. Moreover, through the UF Law On-Campus Interview program and the diligent efforts of UF Law Career Services, I spent my 2L summer as a summer associate with McDermott Will & Emery in Miami.

Lastly, my business and corporate law education would not have been complete without UF Law’s Business in China experience during my 3L year spring break. Through this course, I was given the opportunity to explore the intersection of law, business, and technology in the context of international deals in both Shanghai and Hong Kong. I was not only able to form lifelong relationships with 18 other incredible students but also had the opportunity to meet with global law firms and leaders, including UF alum Jane Sun, the CEO of Ctrip; the COO and General Counsel of Starbucks China; and the General Manager and Senior Counsel of Uber Hong Kong. This transformative weeklong experience in China covered topics such as deal structuring of mergers and acquisitions, antitrust issues, and the regulation of online platforms in transactional settings.

The connections I made through the UF Law business and corporate curriculum would not have been possible without the strength of the Gator Nation and the incredible business law professors at the University of Florida. With the strength of the Gator Nation behind me and the knowledge I have gained through my coursework, I feel confident and prepared to graduate and begin my legal career.
