Summer Experiences
Externships (up to 6 credits): There are a number of Immigration Law focused externships with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security as well as with Americans for Immigrant Justice. In addition, human rights-focused externships include the Innocence Project of Florida and the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights in San Jose, Costa Rica. Numerous other externships opportunities focus on public interest and civil rights law.
Fellowships: Students pursuing summer externships or unpaid placements focused on human rights may also wish to apply for Bill McBride Public Interest Fellowships or Association of Public Interest Law Fellowships. Summer Study Abroad: The Environmental Law Summer Study Abroad in Costa Rica provides students an opportunity to study conservation in a program with an interdisciplinary skills emphasis and field-based approach. The Summer Study Abroad Program in Montpellier, France allows students to study French business law and comparative business related topics in France with field trips to meet with jurists and business professionals.
