UF Law constitutional law expert available to discuss Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action

UF Law Professor Darren L. Hutchinson is available to comment today about the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action. Justices ruled 4-3  in Fisher v. University of Texas that race and ethnicity can be taken into account when deciding on admissions at the University of Texas at Austin.

Hutchinson teaches Constitutional Law, Remedies, Race and the Law, and Civil Rights Seminar at the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

“Today, the Supreme Court reaffirmed the constitutionality of affirmative action in higher education admissions. Many education professionals and civil rights advocates feared the Court would severely curtail the ability of colleges and universities to use affirmative action. The ruling, however, likely gives cover to most higher educational institutions that consider applicants’ racial background as one of several factors in the admissions process.”
