The Center for Governmental Responsibility’s Ninth Annual Conference on Legal & Policy Issues in the Americas will be held May 26-30, 2008, in Rio de Janeiro and in Curitiba, Brazil. The 2008 conference will feature day-long workshops and discussions on selected topics, including:

  • The Financial War Against Organized Crime & Terrorism
  • Property Rights, Land Tenure and Reform, and Rural Violence
  • Human Rights
  • Lessons and Challenges of MERCOSUR’s Trade, Business, and Dispute Settlement Systems
  • Best Practices in Judicial Reform in the Americas
  • Legal Education, Professional Responsibility & Ethics
  • Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Sustainability

The conference will examine current legal issues in the hemisphere, while continuing to strengthen our partnerships throughout the region.

Collaborators for the conference are the Center for Governmental Responsibility at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, the law faculty at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RIO), the Ministerio Publico of the state of Parana, Brazil, the Law and Policy in the Americas Program at the University of Florida and the Florida Journal of International Law.

The conference registration fee is US$150 and is payable by check or money order to: UF Law Center Association.

Application for CLE Credit for Florida attorneys is pending with The Florida Bar. In prior years, the conference has been approved for intermediate level credit. Cost of CLE Credit is $150 and forms will be made available at the conference.
