Library Policies for Students


Non-law students and members of the general public are welcome to visit the Law Library during hours the Circulation Desk is open. The Circulation Desk opens at 7:30 am Monday through Friday, and 10 am Saturday and Sunday.  The Circulation Desk closes at 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday, 7:30 pm on Friday and 6 pm on Saturday.

The Law Library is restricted to current UF law students only during hours that the Circulation Desk is not open.  The Law Library’s doors are locked during hours that the Circulation Desk is not open.

Law students can access the Law Library 24 hours using their Gator 1 card to swipe in at the Law Library’s front entrance.

For your safety and the safety of your fellow students, please do not allow anyone to enter the Law Library without swiping their Gator 1 card.

Because of security concerns, only law students will have access to the Law Library after regular hours.  Guests are not permitted even if accompanied by a law student.  Every individual in the Law Library after regular hours must be a current law student and able to show a valid Gator 1 card for identification.

The Law Library is not staffed after the doors are locked. For suspicious or inappropriate behavior, contact campus police at (352) 392-1111.  In case of emergency, dial 911 on your cell phone.

All users must exit the Law Library by 5:00 pm the evening before the winter holiday closure.  The Law Library will not be accessible over the winter holiday closure.  The Law Library will reopen at 8:00 am the morning after the holiday closure.



Users must check out items at the Circulation Desk. Gator 1 cards are required to obtain library materials. Some books in the Law Library cannot be checked out.

Please check out all circulating materials prior to the closure of the Circulation Desk.  Materials may not be removed from the library when it is not staffed.

Books not in the Reserve Collection may be checked out for 8 weeks to graduate students, and undergraduates. Books may be renewed online or at the Circulation Desk, unless another patron has requested the book.

Books shelved in the Reserve Collection located behind the Circulation Desk are on two-hour reserve and may be renewed at the Circulation Desk only. DVDs are part of the Reserve Collection and have a 7 day checkout period. Materials from the Reserve Collection cannot be renewed online.

Bound journals from the 1st Floor and unbound journals from the Reserve Collection me be checked out for 1 day and will be due the next day prior to the closing of the Circulation Desk.

Food Policy

No food is permitted on the 1st Floor.

Vending machine type snacks and non-messy fruits and vegetables are allowed on the 2nd Floor.

Drinks are required to have a secure lid.

Hot, messy, or odiferous items are prohibited in the Law Library, and must be consumed in the UF Law Commons area.


Study Rooms

There are 13 study rooms on the second floor of the library available to be reserved for a 1, 2 or 3 hour period. Only law students are eligible to reserve  study rooms.

You can access D!BS by computer or smartphone at: https://ufllaw.evanced.info/dibs

Show up to the room on time. If the room is occupied, you will need to show the occupants your D!BS confirmation message.

You may have 2 active reservations in one 24 hour period. You can’t make another until you fulfill one of your current reservations or cancel one or both.

To cancel a reservation, you will need to follow the instructions and link that are included in your confirmation email.

Holland Hall 204 is reserved for prayer, meditation, lactation, and other activities requiring privacy.  This room is NOT part of D!BS. This room can be accessed with a Gator 1 card.

If you forget your smartphone, you may use the computer at the Circulation Desk to make a reservation.

Please be tidy. Capped drinks and vending machine snacks only. No hot or messy food items.

See a circulation staff member at any UF library to activate your Gator 1 card.


Borrowing Privileges

Materials circulate to UF Graduate students, including law students for 8 weeks.  UF Graduate students can check out up to 250 items.

Materials circulate to UF Undergraduate students for 8 weeks.  UF Undergraduate students can check out up to 100 items.

Renewing Materials

Most circulating materials may be renewed. To renew materials, Go to the UF Library catalog and at the top of the screen, click on the “renewals/library account” button.

Enter your Gatorlink and password.

The “renewals/library account” button should now be replaced with three new buttons:  “loans/renewals,” “requests,” and “my account”.

Click on the “loans/renewals” button.

Select either the “renew all UF items” button or click the “renew” button next to the individual item that you would like to renew.
